Definito dal The New York Times uno dei piu' grandi danzatori moderni, Desmond Richardson e' un artista dai mille talenti con una perfetta padronanza e a una profonda conoscenza di tutti i generi di danza: classica, moderna e contemporanea. Ammirato per la sua danza potente e la sua esecuzione unica, Richardson e' stato l'artista simbolo che ha modellato lo stile della Complexion per oltre un decennio.
Il suo immenso talento e' stato gia' riconosciuto quando come studente della New York's High School for the Performing Arts ha ricevuto borse di studio dalla Ailey School, in cui ha poi studiato dal 1983 al 1986, e dalla Accademia Internazionale di Danza di Koln, in Germania, frequentata negli anni 1984/1985. Ha anche ricevuto il premio Presidential Scholar Award for the Arts del 1986 e membro del Who's Who.
Nel 1987 Richardson lavora all'Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, dove rimane come primo ballerino per sette anni. Dopo aver lasciato la Ailey Company, ha lavorato in Germania esibendosi con il Balletto di Francoforte. Da quel momento e' diventato artista ospite delle piu' prestigiose compagnie in tutto il mondo, tra cui il Balletto dell'Opera svedese, il Washington Ballet, il Teatro la Scala e il San Francisco Ballet. Nel 1997 entra a far parte dell'American Ballet Theatre ed e' uno degli unici 12 artisti principali maschili, conquistando l'attenzione dei fan e dei critici per le sue interpretazioni di repertorio classico. Quando danza nel ruolo principale alla prima mondiale dell'Otello, il New York Time lo descrive come uno dei piu' magnifici danzatori che abbia mai solcato il (Metropolitan Opera House) palcoscenico.
Nel 1998 Richardson entra a far parte del cast originario del musical di Broadway Fosse, per cui riceve nel 1999 una nomination ai Tony Award. Fa il suo debutto come cantante esibendosi con le canzoni di icone pop quali Burt Bacharach e Hal David nel musical di Broadway The Look of Love e partecipa anche a Movin' Out, acclamato dalla critica. Ha il ruolo principale nella presentazione danza/teatrale di Debbie Allen Soul Possessed al John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts nel 1999.Lavorando in televisione, film e video negli Stati Uniti e altrove, Richardson si e' esibito con artisti musicali del calibro di Michael Jackson, Prince, Aretha Franklin e Madonna. Ha fatto il suo debutto video come cantante nel film del 2005 di Charles Randolph Wright's 2005 Preaching to the Choir ed e' apparso nel film One Last Dance con Patrick Swayze e Lisa Niemi cosi' come in Chicago,premio Oscar per l'adattamento. Richardson e' apparso nel film di Julie Taymor Across the Universe e ha anche avuto il ruolo principale di Beowulf nel suo Grendel at LA Opera e al The New York State Theater. Richardson e' un ricercatissimo insegnante a livello nazionale ed internazionale. Tra le sue tante onorificenze ci sono: The Ailey School's 2006 Apex Award e il prestigioso 2007 Dance Magazine Award. Recentemente ha affiancato Diana Vishneva nel suo one-woman show Beauty in Motion al New York City Center, all'Orange County Performing Arts Center e a Mosca. Nel Maggio 2008 e' stato uno dei due ballerina invitati dal Presidente degli Stati Uniti ad esibirsi alla 60 Presidential Conference in Israele. Durante l'estate Richardson e' apparso nella trasmissione televisiva della Fox So You Think You Can Dance coreografando un duetto con Dwight Rhoden e ricevendo molti riconoscimenti da Nigel Lythgoe, il produttore del programma.

Praised for his powerful dancing and singular performance quality, Richardson has been the hallmark performer who has shaped the essence of the Complexions style for over a decade.
The Queens, New York native's immense talent was first recognized when, as a student at New York's High School for the Performing Arts, he received merit scholarships from The Ailey School, where he studied from 1983-1986, and the International Academie des Tanz in Koln, Germany, which he attended in 1984-1985. He is also a recipient of a 1986 Presidential Scholar Award for the Arts and a member of the Madison Who's Who worldwide professionals network. In 1987 Richardson joined Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, where he remained as a principal dancer for seven years. After leaving the Ailey company, he traveled to Germany to perform with Ballet Frankfurt. Since that time, Richardson has been a guest artist with renowned dance companies around the world, including the Swedish Opera Ballet, the Washington Ballet, Teatro al la Scala and the San Francisco Ballet. In 1997 he joined American Ballet Theatre as one of only 12 principal male artists, attracting considerable attention from fans and critics alike for his interpretations of the classical repertoire. When he danced the lead role in the company's world premiere of Othello, The New York Times described him as one of the most majestic dancers ever to tread the [Metropolitan Opera House] stage. In 1998, Richardson joined the original cast of the Broadway musical Fosse, for which he received a 1999 Tony Award nomination. His made his singing debut performing the songs of pop music icons Burt Bacharach and Hal David in the Broadway musical The Look of Love and also starred in the critically-acclaimed Movin' Out. He had a principal role in Debbie Allen's dance/theater presentation, Soul Possessed, which premiered at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 1999. Working in television, film and video in the United States and abroad, Richardson has performed with such musical artists as Michael Jackson, Prince, Aretha Franklin and Madonna. He made his on-screen singing debut in Charles Randolph Wright's 2005 film Preaching to the Choir and is featured in Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi's film One Last Dance as well as the Oscar-winning movie adaptation of Chicago. Richardson appeared in Julie Taymor's film Across the Universe and also performed the lead role of Beowulf in her Grendel at the LA Opera and The New York State Theater. Richardson is a sought-after master teacher working nationally and internationally. Among his many honors are The Ailey School's 2006 Apex Award and the prestigious 2007 Dance Magazine Award. In May 2008 he was one of two dancers invited by the President of the United States to perform at the 60th Presidential Conference in Israel.
